Hello and thank you for visiting Steady Stride!
I’ve pondered on creating this blog for some time; as an outlet for my thoughts in progress, an expression of my interest in an array of subjects, and an attempt at sharing science simply.
Who am I?
I’m Kate. An overly competitive recreational runner, wannabe triathlete (more on that later), animal lover, science enthusiast, with an interest in politics, and specifically, the bigger systems that shape our health.
I have a background in biology (2018-2021) and a Master’s in Global Public Health (2021-2022), and most importantly, an insatiable curiosity in the link between biological systems, social determinants of health, inequality, public policy and the transformative effect of sport.
What you’ll find here:
I aim to bring three things to this blog. This may change overtime, but for now, they stand at this:
1. A personal training diary: open access to my thoughts, reflections, frustrations and successes.
2. Making science accessible: breaking down the research and providing understandable, actionable insights for everyone.
3. Reflecting on the bigger picture: exploring how individual aspects feed into broader systems, and how policy can be shaped to minimise inequality.
Why I’ve set up this blog:
I’m a strong advocate for research being communicated properly. Here you will find no jargon, no quick fixes, no 5 minute health hacks. What you will find here instead is simple: an attempt to navigate the noise, an attempt to explore and illustrate how our health is influenced by the collision of many factors, and an attempt to share my own personal experience of amateur athletics.
I certainly don’t profess to know everything, and I definitely don’t profess that there is a one-size fits all solution to tackle social injustice, health policy, or understand every single interconnecting link between biology, health inequality and sport. What I do profess, however, is a passion, an energy, and a relentless enthusiasm to connect the dots between biology, health, policy, inequality, society, sport and plenty more.
